Perhaps the world’s second-most famous luxury shopping destination after Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive, New York City’s high-fashion sensibilities make it one of the world’s foremost retail destinations, but the city isn’t just for the wealthy shoppers. In fact, it’s not even for those interested in clothes shopping. The food and beverage market in the city is so massive, it employs more than half-a-million people in its restaurants, bars, and the like. However, non-edible retail is still king, and according to the Retail Council of New York State, NYC employs approximately 875,000 people in stores and similar establishments.
