As someone who works in the nonprofit world in New York, I can honestly say that I love it. I love that all the work I do translates back into a great cause. Every tweet I send, every event that I plan, and every task I do results in making someone’s life a little bit better. If you were nodding your head while reading these past couple of lines, the nonprofit world may be for you, too. Here are the top nonprofits in New York to work for.

1. Charity Water
   Mission: To bring clean and safe drinking water to every person in the world.

   According to Charity Water Videographer and Editor Jamie Pent, “When you come in here, you’re joining a family.” That’s why she loves working at Charity Water. The office is lined with photos showcasing the impact that they’re having. What more inspiration do you need than to be surrounded by pictures of the lives you’ve changed? What’s even more awesome is that private funders cover operating expenses so 100% of donations from the public go to the cause itself.
2. Harlem RBI
   Mission: To provide inner-city youth with opportunities to play, learn and grow.

   Harlem RBI was ranked number 26 on The Nonprofit Times’ list of top 50 nonprofits to work for in 2014. Associate Program Coordinator Justina Sharrock says that this is a great place to work because “The people are great and growth is plenty. You meet so many people with so many different backgrounds and yet everyone comes here to learn something.”
3. TED
   Mission: TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less).

4. DoSomething.Org
   Mission: To motivate young people to take action around social change.

   The Nonprofit Times ranked DoSomething.org number 26 on their list of top 50 best nonprofits to work for in 2016. Additionally, it was the first New York based nonprofit on the list. A former employee states that “Employees are encouraged to work on side projects and often collaborate together. Very social office. Employees are very well-networked.”
5. Teach For America
   Mission: To enlist, develop, and mobilize as many as possible of our nation’s most promising future leaders to grow and strengthen the movement for educational equity and excellence.

   Whether you’re a teacher or not, I’m sure you know the importance of education, and through working at TFA, you can help those who many not have the same access to education as others. Many of TFA’s employees are former teachers themselves. Aimee Baez, Teacher Leadership Development Manager states “Everyone here is on the same page. 6. New York Cares
   Mission: To meet pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

   New York Cares was ranked number 45 on The Nonprofit Times’ list of top 50 nonprofits to work for in 2015. One employee even took to Glassdoor to state that there are no downsides at all to working here.
7. National Multiple Sclerosis Society
   Mission: People affected by MS can live their best lives as we stop MS in its tracks, restore what has been lost and end MS forever.

   In addition to making FlexJob’s list of top 100 companies for nonprofit jobs, National MS Society also made The Nonprofit Times’ list of top 100 nonprofits back in 2012. The cultural values of their employees include continuously learning and innovating, engaging, valuing, and empowering others, and leading through inspiration, collaboration, and influence.
8. iMentor
   Mission: iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.

   The Nonprofit Times ranked iMentor as number 40 on their list of top 50 nonprofits of 2016 to work at. According to iMentor’s website, by working at their organization, you’ll be working at “one of the fastest growing and most innovative mentoring organizations in the country.”
9. DonorsChoose.org
   Mission: We make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.

   The Nonprofit Times ranked DonorsChoose.org as number 3 on their list of top 50 nonprofits to work for in 2015. A current marketing employee at the company, Rakey, states “This was my first job out of college, and I love that it has taken me full circle (my high school English teacher was a big DonorsChoose.org user). It’s an added bonus that I get to work with people who are truly passionate about birding the gap in education inequality.”
10. Birthright Israel Foundation
    Mission: we work to ensure that Birthright Israel remains a gift to young Jewish adults for years to come.
