The 10 Best Job Prospects For Millennials

By now we’re used to hearing about the fastest growing jobs or the coolest new industries. But what about long-term stability and starting salary? Or even how stressful a job might turn out to be? A new study conducted by Careercast takes all of these factors into account and the results have just been released.

The verdict? Job-hunting millennials actually aren’t in bad shape, though we’ll likely be occupying new industries and abandoning the coveted professions of our parents. (While the prestige is still there, becoming a doctor or a lawyer doesn’t have the same financial appeal or security as it once did, for example.) Nonetheless, “This is the strongest year of employment growth for this generation since 2007,” Steven Rothberg, the founder of CollegeRecruiter.com told Careercast. “We’re getting close to where we’re seeing an equilibrium where just about every college-educated young adult who wants to be employed can easily be employed.”

The median income for physical therapists is just under $80,000 a year

The results of Careercast’s study are most useful for the younger spectrum of the 16-34 age bracket as they deliver a familiar conclusion with regards to education: STEM students—those focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—have the best shot at immediate and long term employment and their return on educational investment is the most secure.

The average annual income for a civil engineer hovers around $79,300

Other aspects seem unclear. The lowest paying title of the bunch, social media manager, is likely the most attainable and familiar to many millennials, but while the industry is growing, how much room for advancement beyond that particular position itself remains to be seen. Some of the jobs listed are most attractive due to industry growth prospects: certified physical therapists are in demand (and will continue to be) more so than any other listed position. By contrast, the highest paying professions have the slowest rates of growth, but if they’re listed here, the space isn’t overly crowded, yet.

Data scientists can earn over $120,000 a year
